Pulau Tikus is sub-urban centre with many shops and a shopping mall. (Though 'pulau' means island in Malay, Pulau Tikus is an area on Penang Island.)

Shops here offer everything and anything from food, lightings, furniture, CDs/VCDs, food, or jewellery.    Some trendy restaurants are popular with the in the evenings. Nearby is the One-stop Midlands Park, a mall which offers good bargains for designer wear, trendy clothes, shoes, leather goods, jewellery, etc. There is also a supermarket, some fast food restaurants located there.
