Teluk Kumbar, Gertak Sanggul and Teluk Tempoyak
There are a number of fishing villages located on the southern part of Penang island. The rural setting offers a haven to those seeking tranquility. You can walk along the beaches of Teluk Kumbar and Gertak Sanggul and visit the local market where you are bound to get very fresh fish. Fishermen often go out to sea at night and bring in fresh fishes in the early morning.
At the southeastern part of Penang island is the small fishing village of Teluk Tempoyak, which is making a name for itself as a seafood haven. This is a place you get good ikan baker (grilled fish), crabs and a variety of shellfish. The seafood here is fresh and stalls and restuarants here usually open in the evenings and into the night.
