Hari Raya Puasa Adilfitri

Kapitan Keling Mosque, George Town PenangHari Raya Puasa

/ or Hari Raya Adilfitri (Eid Al-Fitr)

This is the first day of the month following Ramadan, the month of fasting and abstinence. This is the celebration of fast-breaking, which officially begins after sunset on the 29th day of Ramadan if the crescent of the moon is sighted.  If the crescent is sited, the next day is declared Hari Raya Aidilfitri.    The day begins with Muslims going to pray at mosques early in the morning and visit cemeteries of their loved ones.

In Malaysia, many Muslims hold ‘open houses’ inviting friend and relatives to visit and normally servied with food (s.a. ketupat and rendang) and 'Raya' cookies.  This is a main celebration for many Malays who will travel back to their family homes for a gathering.

2018 Hari Raya falls on 15 June
