Picking brains for heritage action plan

GEORGE Town World Heritage Incorporated will develop an action plan on heritage asset management after a series of public forums and workshops which will take place this month.

Its general manager Maimunah Mohd Sharif said suggestions from experts in their respective fields attending the forums and workshops would be compiled and if suitable, they would be incorporated into the plan.

“There will also be brainstorming sessions with the experts on the best practices to manage our heritage asset.”

Organised by George Town World Heritage Incorporated in collaboration with AusHeritage and Penang Heritage Trust, the forums and workshops from Saturday until May 30 are supported by the state government, Penang Municipal Council, Penang Global Tourism, Malaysian Institute of Architects and Think City Sdn Bhd.

Maimunah said eight Australian heritage specialists would be brought in as resource people to share their expertise and experience on heritage management in Australia.

“The first forum on Saturday will touch on management of heritage assets while the workshop will be on Sunday and Monday at the Bayview Georgetown Hotel.

“The following forum session on March 26 will touch on design in a heritage context followed by a workshop on March 27 and March 28,” she told a press conference at the Town Hall in Esplanade on Wednesday.

Registration fee for each forum is RM20 while it is RM50 for forum and workshop.

Lunch and tea together with printed materials will be provided.

Property owners, architects, policy makers, heritage conservationists and other professionals are invited to attend the event.
